TAG Heuer celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 with two exclusive limited editions in steel and rose gold that pay homage to one of Porsche’s most iconic models and the first 911 to bear the Carrera name: the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 chronographs.
TAG Heuer and Porsche joined forces in 2021. An obvious partnership as they share a long common history in motorsport, starting with the legendary Carrera Panamerica motor racing who gave his name to the famous pilot’s chronograph born in 1963 and at the mythical 911but also with the cult film « Le Mans » in which Steve McQueen, who was driving a Porsche 917 and wore a Heuer Monaco.
TAG Heuer today celebrates the 50th anniversary of a legendary car: the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (read the article here). It was in 1972 the first Porsche to be baptized ‘Carrera’. It was then the fastest and most powerful road-going 911, at the top of the German manufacturer’s range. It is recognizable by its front and rear spoilers, the famous « duck tail », and its colored « Carrera » markings on the side of the bodywork. It marked automotive history and is still today one of the most sought-after models by collectors and enthusiasts of sports cars with character.
The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 were unveiled on October 5, exactly 50 years after the presentation of the Carrera 2.7 at the Paris Motor Show.
These two commemorative editions adopt the same two-tone aesthetic as the 911 Carrera 2.7, TAG Heuer having retained the colors blue and red in the palette of 27 colors offered for the car at its launch. They are based on the 42 mm Carrera chronograph, fitted with a tricompax dial with minute and hour totalizers at 3 and 9 o’clock and a discreet seconds counter integrating the date window at 6 o’clock. They are powered by the essential automatic Heuer 02 caliber, a high-performance and precise manufacture movement with a comfortable 80-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire crystal of the caseback, the oscillating weight represents the three-spoke steering wheel of the Porsche.
The polished steel edition is distinguished by its blue color. It is limited to 500 copies, the individual number of which is engraved on the screwed case back. The smooth white opaline dial takes up the livery of the Carrera 2.7 with its blue decorations on the flange in the shape of a rev counter, the lacquered hands of the chronograph function, the pusher and the logo on the crown. The rhodium-plated indexes and the hour and minute hands coated with white SuperLuminova recall the car’s chrome door handles, mirrors and window frames. The famous “Carrera” marking affixed to the lower body of the RS 2.7 is faithfully reproduced on the middle of the case and the strap in white technical fabric. A second steel bracelet with H-shaped links is also available.
The edition in 18K 5N pink gold in red is even more exclusive and luxurious with only 250 pieces whose individual number is engraved on the screwed back. The case is in rose gold, as are the crown and the pushers. Water-resistant to 100 m, it is engraved on the middle with the name “Carrera” with its typical lettering. The white dial is here enhanced with Indian red accents and rose gold colored indexes and hands. This version adds an elegant red alligator strap closed by a pink gold pin buckle.
Finally, TAG Heuer celebrates in a beautiful way the 50th anniversary of this automotive icon that is the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. The blue edition in steel is the most accessible in terms of price, at 7450 euros The red edition, more luxurious, is offered at 22300 euros.
